Yum! Apple & BBQ fest this weekend

SILVER LAKE — Enjoy the bounties of the fall harvest during this beautiful time of year in Oceana County by attending the fun-filled Apple & BBQ Cook-Off Festival this weekend.

Events, which are set for Friday and Saturday, include a Michigan-sanctioned Kansas City BBQ Cook-Off, craft show, classic vehicle and dune buggy show, barbecue eating contests, Festival Fun 5K Run/Walk, children’s activities, food vendors, live bbq 3entertainment and much more.

Schedule of Events

Friday

10 a.m. to 5 p.m. – King of the Dunes Backyard BBQ Competition: amateur competition, for more info, contact Jeff Clark at 231-873-5257. Awards – 6:30 p.m.

Noon to 9 p.m. –  Food vendors on the festival grounds: BBQ tickets required for food purchases

2-5 p.m. – Keith Scott on Festival Stage

5:30 p.m. – Beak to Beak Contest

5:30-9:10 p.m. – Rocket Fuel Haulers on Festival Stage

Saturday

9-10 a.m. – Apple Pie Contest, check-in at Grace Adventures; Divisions: professionals/bakeries; adults 14 and up; youth 7-13, for more info, contact Marilyn Henry at 231-873-1008.

bbq -19 a.m. – Festival 5K Fun Run/Walk at Mac Wood’s Dune Rides, registration begins at 8 a.m.; forms are also available at 5k-fun-run. For more info, contact Tom Weirich at 231-923-6366.

10 a.m. to 5 p.m. – Little Point Sable Lighthouse tours, $3 for adults, $1 for children

FESTIVAL ROW ACTIVITIES

10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. – Homemade Crafts & Fresh Farm Apples/Produce Show

10 a.m. to 6 p.m. – children’s activities, games and inflatable area, Parkside Store parking lot

10 a.m. to 9 p.m. – Food vendors on the festival grounds: BBQ tickets required for foodapple & bbq logo purchases

FESTIVAL STAGE AND GROUNDS

10 a.m. to 3 p.m. – Live entertainment

1 p.m. – BBQ eating contests

3 p.m. – Professional BBQ Cook-Off competition awards

4:15 p.m. – Classic Vehicle & Buggy Show awards

5:30-9:10 p.m. – North Country Flyers on Festival Stage

Parking will be available at lodging facilities with shuttle service to the downtown festival area every half hour from noon to 9 p.m. Friday and 9:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday.
