PENTWATER — Police Chief Laude Hartrum introduced three new officers and a summer cadet during Monday night’s village council meeting.
The new officers join a staff that totals three full-time and five part-time employees.
– Michael Dunneback is new full-time officer who was hired in October. A graduate of the Grand Valley State University Police Academy, Dunneback worked as an officer for the Little River Band of Ottawa Indians Tribal Police Department since 2010.
– Nate DeWeerd just signed on as a part-time Pentwater police officer. His background includes 13 years with the U.S. Marine Corps. and is a member of the Air National Guard.
– Alexander Schulz is a new part-time officer who also works part-time for Hart Police Department. He goes by “Xander” (pronounced “Zander”) and graduated from West Shore Community College’s Police Academy last year.
– Alex Meyers, a student at Lake Superior State University Police Academy, is a cadet for PPD. This is his third summer handling the front desk duties.
The need to hire new officers arose following recent, separate departures of three officers, said Hartrum.
