GREENWOOD TWP. — A 51-year-old Hesperia woman drowned over the weekend in the White River. Shelly Dyer was found by canoeists in the White River near South 198th Avenue Saturday morning. Deputies from Oceana County Sheriff’s Office were initially called to that area at 10:15 a.m. for a situation of found personal property on the bank of the river.

Upon arrival, deputies found woman’s shoes and personal property.  The deputies were notified by a passing canoeist that they’d located a female in the water a short time later. Deputies rushed to that location and found that Dyer had apparently drowned. Investigation found that she had been seen the prior evening  in the area around the river.

Alcohol is believed to have been a factor, the incident is still under investigation.
