AIM_LogoHART — The Oceana Archers Inc. are hosting their first-ever state competition this Saturday and Sunday at the Oceana County Fairgrounds.

The Outdoor MAA (Michigan Archery Association) 420 is set to begin at 8 a.m. each day and run until approximately 3 p.m., said Oceana Archers Vice President Travis Johnson, who is also VP of the Lake Michigan Archery Association. The highest daily is score for this weekend’s event  is 420, Johnson explained.

A Target 900 event is set for the weekend of July 26 and 27 at the fairgrounds as well, Johnson said. The two events will return to the Oceana County Fairgrounds in 2015. “Next year, we’ll do the whole thing all over again,” he said.

Right now, there are 100 archers registered for the event, but more are welcome to register up until the morning of the competition, Johnson said. Competitors from all over Michigan, as well as Indiana, Wisconsin and Canada, are slated to compete. There will be age groups starting at 5 years old and up to 80 years of age, he said.

Both gates to the fairgrounds will be open, but participants are encouraged to use the south entrance on Polk Road past Hansen Foods to avoid National Asparagus Festival traffic.
