44th West Shore commencement is Friday

SCOTTVILLE – Nearly 200 West Shore Community College students are eligible to receive degrees and certificates at the college’s 44th commencement ceremony to be held on Friday, May 2, at 7 p.m. in the College’s Recreation Center Arena.

Speakers for the event will be Guy Smith, president of the Student Senate, WSCC Faculty Association president and Professor of Philosophy Dr. Matthew Sanderson, WSCC President Charles Dillon, and James Jensen, chairman of the board of trustees.

During the ceremonies, the college will also honor Dr. Sara Tanis with the Alumni Achievement Award.  Tanis is a 1992 graduate of the college and employed in Michigan State University’s Department of Entomology as a Post-Doctoral Research Associate. Tanis is the daughter WSCC Professor Emeritus Dr. Dale and Rose Marie Sutton of Scottville.

The graduates will be presented by Dr. Lisa Stich, Vice President of Academic and Student Services. Chairman Jensen and Dr. Dillon will award the degrees.

The Rev. William Huether, of Bethany Lutheran Church in Ludington and Victory-Trinity Lutheran Church in Victory Township, will deliver the invocation and benediction.

Music for the event will be provided by the Grand Traverse Pipes and Drums and the WSCC Wind Symphony which is conducted by Associate Professor of Music Ted Malt.

Following the commencement ceremonies, a reception for the graduates and their families will be held in the Administrative and Conference Building.wscc commencement graduation
