GOLDEN TOWNSHIP — A 19-year-old Van Buren Township man has “no feeling or movement from the waist down” after crashing on his dirt bike at the Silver Lake Sand Dunes Thursday, Aug. 13, shortly after 5 p.m., according to Oceana County Sheriff Craig Mast.

“Deputies responded to a dune crash yesterday in which the young man suffered what appears to be quite serious injuries,” said Sheriff Mast. “He had no feeling or movement from the waist down at the time of the crash and that condition is still present this morning.

“Please keep this young man in your thoughts and prayers.”

He was airlifted by Spectrum Aeromed to Specrum Health Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids.

“Brendan Schuster was riding his dirt bike on the Silver Lake Sand Dunes ORV area headed west on Exit Hill,” the sheriff’s office accident report states. “He was traveling at approximaltely 50-60 mph when he encountered some small sand ruts, causing him to lose control of his dirt bike. Schuster’s dirt bike laid down and his body kept traveling forward, tumbling multiple times causing injury.”

The report states that Schuster was riding a 2018 KTM SXF250, and he was wearing a helmet.
