Village suggests running water to prevent frozen pipes.

SHELBY – The Village of Shelby is encouraging residents to run water from their faucets to prevent pipes from freezing in their homes.
“With these extremely cold temperatures, you may want to consider letting your water run if you have had problems with frozen pipes in the past,” states a post on the village’s Facebook page Monday, Jan. 21. “Running water through the pipe – even at a trickle – helps prevent pipes from freezing.
“We are not requiring people to run their water – this is only an advisory as we’ve heard of frozen pipes due to the extreme cold and lack of snow insulating the ground. We are just informing residents who may have had problems in the past to consider letting a small stream of water run to avoid frozen or burst pipes.”
