Minnesota man expected to be charged for car theft.

PENTWATER — A 31-year-old Minnesota man is in police custody and suspected of stealing a vehicle in the village. Pentwater Police Chief Laude Hartrum reported that PPD received a report of a stolen vehicle on Saturday, July 7, 2018. The theft occurred sometime between 2:30 am and  2 p.m. that day. Officers began an investigation and located the suspect vehicle a short time later.

The keys of the vehicle were lost by the vehicle owner sometime around 2 a.m., Hartrum said.

The 31-year-old Minnesota man was arrested by Oceana County Sheriff’s Office at 5:30 a.m. on Sunday, July 8, on unrelated charges following a report of a vehicle parked in a road in Pentwater Township. The vehicle the suspect had in his possession matched the description of the vehicle which had been reported stolen and was later identified as the stolen vehicle. .  

Pentwater Police Department is requesting warrants for unlawfully driving away an automobile (UDAA), defrauding an innkeeper and violation of bond.  The suspect remains lodged at the Oceana County Jail.

“Please make sure to keep track of your car keys, purse and bags.” warned Chief Hartrum.  “We are still trying to determine how the suspect came to be in possession of the vehicle keys.”
