HART — A burned car that was reported to police today may be the same car that was reported stolen from the Oceana County Fairgrounds parking lot during the final night of the fair, Aug. 23.

Hart Police Department, the Oceana County Sheriff’s Office and the Hart post of the Michigan State Police responded to a complaint of a burned car today found in a wooded area near the Hart Dam. “Someone saw it yesterday about 6 p.m., and they reported it today,” said Hart Police Chief Dan Leimback. The car was “totally burned,” he said. “We’re still trying to determine if it was a stolen car from the fair.”

The car that was stolen during the fair was a 1996 four-door Buick Regal valued at $1,000, the chief said. The keys to the car were left in its center console, he said. It was registered in Michigan.

Police have no suspects at this time.
