SHELBY — The inaugural Shelby Summer Street Festival, set for Saturday Aug. 9 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., will offer fun activities for all ages.
The new event will offer a classic car show, a 5K run/walk, live rock and roll music, a farm and craft fair, children’s games and activities and food vendors.
“The Shelby Summer Street Festival is the product of input from the Shelby community following the first Shelby Winter Blast,” said Village Administrator Aaron Desentz. “At that festival, many attendees began asking members of the committee, ‘What are you guys doing for the summer?’ Following the Winter Blast, the committee came together to discuss some possible ideas. The result is the upcoming Shelby Summer Street Fest.”
The car show will feature “Best in Show” and “People’s Choice” awards with trophies. Approximately 40 cars are expected to participate. Those who would like to be in the car show should contact Tiffany Haight at 861-4565. The cost is $10, and registration forms and payments are due by July 31.
The 5K Fun Run is free, and runners and walkers of all ages are encouraged to join. The race begins downtown at the corner of Third Street and Michigan Avenue next to Shelby Floral. Pre-registration forms are available at Shelby Floral. Runners and walkers can also register from 8-8:45 a.m. the day of the event.
The farm and craft fair will take place in the rail trail pavilion. Those who would like to participate, may contact Trish Varney at (231) 450-2107. The fee is $10 per booth.
Local rock band Redeye will perform during the event, and there will be several fresh food vendors serving a variety of tasty dishes.
Children will enjoy the Kids’ Corner, which will feature several fun, free activities. The target age group is 5-12.
T-Shirts are available for $10 at either the village hall or at Woodland Farm Market. They will also be available for purchase during the festival.
