May 27, 2014

The Oceana County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to the Hackley-Lakeshore Emergency Room in Shelby Sunday at 10:55 p.m. to investigate a stabbing victim who was being treated.

A 41-year-old Hesperia man suffered a 1-inch long wound to his neck just below his ear where a 3-4 inch long knife had stabbed him.

The man told police he had gotten into an argument with his fiancé’s ex-boyfriend over possession of a cell phone. The suspect is a 24-year-old Montague man. Deputies have tried repeatedly to make contact with the suspect, but have not found him yet.

The victim is expected to fully recover, police said. The incident has been turned over to the Oceana County Prosecutor’s Office for review, although it remains open as deputies continue to search for the suspect.
